Friday, November 20, 2009 - Subject: Ruling on Controversial "Guns & Alcohol" Law: Shortly after noon today, the Judge in the Chancery Court in Nashville ruled that the Tennessee's law that went into effect on of July 14, 2009, allowing gun-permit holders to carry guns in places that serve alcoholic beverages, was ruled as unconstitutionally vague.

As of now, the law that expressly permits legal gunowners in places where alcohol, wine or beer, is invalid and they can no longer do so. It is still possible that the case may be appealed, and it is a certainty that the legislature will take a look at the law again when they reconvene early next year.

For now, until it is generally known that you cannot carry a gun any more, it is suggested that those who have decided to post signs, should leave those "no gun signs" posted. More to come after your THA Government Relations Committee meets in December. -Walt Baker Tennessee Hospitality Association
